Industry Insider

Industrial chic is hugely popular at the moment.  Lots of the coolest cafes and bars around Melbourne now feature these rough lines, rebelling against that traditional slick and safe decor so popular in the past few decades.  As our living spaces become more varied, with warehouses and lofts now becoming places to call home, people are really embracing taking on the project of polishing up that rugged look previously reserved for commercial properties and businesses.

Industrial chic is about using a variety of ready made elements - often salvaged from old abandoned factories or commercial kitchens - and combining them together to create an interesting residental/industrial hybrid of interior design.  This style needn't be cold and factory-like - in fact much the opposite.  Clever use of items means that a truely unique and insightful masterpiece can be created.

Just a few industrial elements added to a more simple style can still create a unique mood in the room

It's likely that these industrial items will be expensive if you buy them instore.  It's smart to look online, or at deceased estates and second hand shops for things you can give some TLC to yourself.  There's nothing more satisfying than creating your own useful piece of art.

Happy Easter,
Joanna
